Sydney Northern Beaches pop duo Monatomic, are reminding everyone that authenticity is key with their new single Only Way, freshly released for your listening pleasure today.
A cheeky little electro-pop mix, Only Way is also a story of learning to be true to yourself, with band mates and childhood pals Steffan Lazar and Taryn Webster dubbing it their “coming out song”.
Only Way was made one night when we were having falafels in our rehearsal studio in a makeshift doona vocal booth; we just wanted to have fun and let loose. Some sexy inspo from the iconic ‘A Little Bit Alexis’ - Schitts Creek (huge fans of that show) - and we were onto a winner! Interestingly it’s become our “coming out” song.
We both realised that we had to be authentic and true to ourselves. Taryn working through her gender affirmation, and me being open about being gay. Enjoy our kitschy, gay and empowering anthem full of not-so-subtle metaphors. Alexis would be proud.
